Bitcoin kloon in ontwikkeling bij JP Morgan

JP Morgan Chase, een grote (zeg maar de grootste) Amerikaanse bank werkt aan een kloon van bitcoin en heeft hierop patent aangevraagd aldus de Financial Times. Hiermee kunnen we een aantal voorzichtige conclusies trekken:

  1. Een aantal banken zien de cryptogeld ontwikkeling en moeten snel handelen om geen achterstand op te lopen.
  2. Een patent biedt bescherming tegen inbreuk op rechten. Dit wordt natuurlijk een leuke omdat bitcoin op zichzelf Open Source is. Via patenten kan verdere ontwikkeling ook worden tegengehouden. Amerikanen hebben er niet zo veel problemen mee om andermans goede ideeën formeel te documenteren en deze dan te beschermen. Vergelijk dit met de patenten op de telefoon. Google eens op telettrofono en Antonio Meucci.
